Fujitsu and NEC have entered into an agreement with NTT Communications, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, StarHub and Telekom Malaysia to construct the Asia Submarine-cable Express (ASE) system.
The ASE system is a high-bandwidth optical submarine cable system that is designed for a transmission speed of 40Gbps, and will link Japan to Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, and Malaysia.
Under the agreement, Fujitsu and NEC consortium will jointly carry out the entire project management while NEC will manufacture and install all submersible plants including: Repeaters, OADM Branching Units and Cables, Power Feeding Equipment, and submersible plant monitoring system.
Fujitsu will manufacture and install Submarine Line Terminal Equipment and the Management controller.
The companies said that the ASE will meet the demand for intra-Asia connectivity between South East Asia and North Asia.
NEC executive vice president Junji Yasui said the company is proud to be the supplier for the ASE, a 40G long haul system, incorporating OADM technologies that will provide additional connectivity and capacity between regions of Asia and the world that increasingly require more bandwidth.
