Fox to update broadcast affiliate network with Cisco DCM

Expects to enable MPEG splicing between local and national program feeds

By CBR Staff Writer

The Fox Broadcasting Company is updating its national broadcast affiliate network by deploying the Cisco Digital Content Manager at its main Los Angeles location and at approximately 200 Fox affiliate stations across the US.

The Cisco ROSA Network Management and Element Manager systems and the Cisco Digital Content Managers (DCMs) will help enable switching (MPEG splicing) between local and national program feeds, said Cisco.

The Cisco DCM delivers the ability to meet FCC-mandated service requirements including the emergency alert system and program and system information protocol to support the transition to all digital broadcasting, added Cisco.

Andrew Setos, president of engineering for the Fox group, said: Service reliability and video quality are top priorities for Fox as we finalize our migration to an all-digital broadcast system. This new digital delivery platform delivers on our commitment to our local broadcast affiliates for flexibility and ease of use that is key to continue serving their communities with vital emergency information.

Brian Morris, vice president of global business development for digital media networks business unit at Cisco, said: By integrating multiple functions into the Cisco end-to-end solution, we are helping our customers simplify operations and evolve their networks into medianets, equipped to accommodate increased video and interactive multimedia applications and services. With the built in processing capability of the platform, the Cisco DCM is a powerful resource for broadcasters as they work toward the upcoming digital transition.
