Emirates Telecom plans to enter Iraqi telecom market

Emirates Telecommunications is in preliminary negotiations to acquire an existing telecom operator in Iraq to enter into the country's telecom market by the end of 2008, according to Reuters.

The existing operator has a license to operate in a limited area in Iraq. Through this acquisition, Emirates Telecommunications (Etisalat) plans to expand its services in the country. Etisalat’s regional competitors Asiacell and Korek are already operating in the region.
