Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks has launched a factual television content-based subscription streaming service named ‘CuriosityStream’ in the US.

The service is planned to be expanded to other countries soon.

CuriosityStream will be an ad-free subscription-video-on-demand (SVOD) service that will provide factual programmes anytime and on any device.

According to reports, the service is likely to compete against Netflix, Hulu, Time Warner’s HBO and CBS jump.

Subscribers will be able to choose the viewing experience by opting for different resolutions which includes a $2.99 per month Standard Resolution, and $5.99 per month HD Resolution, and 4K Resolution to be launched later this year.

The content will be based on science, technology, civilisation and the human spirit. It will feature original commissions, original series, and documentary content from the BBC, ZED, Terra Noa,NHK, and Flame Distribution.

Some of the sample contents include Earth: Power of the Planet, Chopra Love in Action, Annihilation: Destruction of Europe’s Jews, Destination Pluto, and Elizabeth Hendricks North.

Hendricks said: "My dream of a content-on-demand service that uses advanced media to empower the enduring human desire to understand the Universe and the world around us is now a reality.

"CuriosityStream is the world’s first ad-free, SVOD service that addresses our lifelong quest to learn, explore, and understand.

"Our aim is to provide the first and best on-demand video streaming destination that aggregates and curates the world’s best factual content."
