Digital Realty targets FS community with new Chicago data centre

Its new building will be located near Lakeside Technology Centre.

By Hannah Williams

Digital Realty is to build a new data centre in Chicago, claiming that the site will be one of the biggest in the world.

Standing at 12 stories tall, the new data centre is set to boast 660,000 square feet and 54 megawatts of utility load.

Although there is no confirmation as to when the building work will get started, Digital Realty and partners CBRE and CentrePoint are set to build in the heart of Chicago’s financial services community. Located near the Lakeside Technology Centre, which serves as the premier interconnection, colocation and telecommunications hub in the Midwest, the new data centre hopes to leverage its location and serve the financial community when online.

Todd Bateman, North American Agency Practice Leader, CBRE Data Centre Solutions Group said: “Data centre demand is surging, driven by rapid growth of cloud adoption and corporate IT outsourcing. Demand is outpacing supply, both at the national level and within the Chicago area in particular.”

Digital Realty, also recently launched a cloud connectivity platform, as part of the company’s service exchange, which is aimed at providing private, direct connections between enterprise data centres and public clouds of various organisations.

A.William Stein, Chief Executive Officer, Digital Realty said: “With the expansion of our Cermak flagship, Digital Realty will be even better positioned to future-proof our customers’ growth, while simultaneously satisfying their most performance-sensitive requirements.”
