DealTaker launches @CouponBot tweet command

Allows consumers to receive specific store coupons via Twitter

By CBR Staff Writer has announced that consumers can receive specific store coupons via Twitter using a new tweet command @CouponBot. Based on Twitter’s application programming interface (API), the new service uses Twitter’s user interfaces and third-party applications to communicate with the company’s coupon database.

According to DealTaker, similar to a search engine, @CouponBot technology enables Twitter users to retrieve specific store coupons via tweets. Users can go to ‘What are you doing?’ and type @CouponBot followed by the store name, then click on their ‘@username’ on the right side of the page.

The company said that the Bot, also known as an Internet robot, calls on Twitter agents to search thousands of coupons in its database and return the most current coupons. Users do not have to follow DealTaker to use @CouponBot.

Shawn McCarthy, vice president of product strategy and development at DealTaker, said: With social media’s compounded annual growth rate of 34% over the next 5 years, consumers are increasingly taking charge of the information they receive.
