US provider Switch has started construction works on a $300 million data centre in Siziano, outside Milan.

The 450,000 sq ft and 40MW facility will be the company’s first overseas hub.

The development will be supervised by Supernap International, in a joint venture between Switch, Accelero Capital Holdings and Orascom TMT Investments (OTMTI).

The company said the facility has been designed to achieve Uptime Institute’s Tier IV certification.

Switch is also currently building what it claims to be the world’s largest data centre in Reno, Nevada, at nearly 6.5 million sq ft with up to 650 MVA of power.
