Josh Begley, a self-confessed ‘data artist’, has made a visual map that catalogues every US military base in the world.
The map, found here at Empire.is, used satellite imagery and data found listed on the Department of Defense’s 2013 Base Structure Report to give us the map.
It’s a pretty astounding collection. There’s a zoomable map with all of the bases plotted, and if you keep zooming in the map will reveal satellite imagery for each location.
It just goes to show the the US military is literally EVERYWHERE, and the website does a good job of quantifying data that’s hard for the brain to process in other forms.
