Could Amazon Prime become the next-gen cable TV?

News: Subscribers will be able to see several new on-demand TV and movie channels.

By CBR Staff Writer

Amazon Prime Instant Video service is looking to expand its services by allowing customers to add other on-demand TV and movie channels to their subscription packages.

With the introduction of the new feature, Prime Instant Video subscribers will be able to access major TV and movie channels, and will see landing pages of other video companies appearing inside Prime Instant Video.

Bloomberg cited sources familiar with the matter as saying the new service will also allow customers to directly log into other streaming services using their Amazon credentials.

The move is expected to give an added advantage to Amazon over its competitors Hulu and Netflix who offer similar services.

It is also likely to help the service become more like a cable TV service and get new subscribers.

The company is already ahead in the competition with Hulu and Netflix as it offers TV services via its Fire TV which competes against Apple TV and Roku.

Apart from shows from other channels the service will also include Amazon’s original shows and licensed programming.
