This solution is the only platform that serves all on-train wireless voice and data services for the passengers, said Comba Telecom.

With a 120km line connecting Beijing to Tianjin, railway trains run at an operational speed of up to 350km per hour. Travel time between these two cities has now been shortened to 30 minutes, according to Comba Telecom.

Although speed is the advantage of a high speed railway, it also poses challenges in the provision of ubiquitous mobile communication coverage. To overcome this, Comba said that its solution included the division of the line into a number of sections and the setting up of over 120 service spots along the route. Comba added that its advanced fiber transport remote radio solution then boosts and enhances wireless reception while minimizing signal interference and extending reach.

Tony Fok, chairman and president of Comba, said: We are pleased to supply our wireless solutions to the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Rail. The result of exhaustive testing and standby support means that passengers can enjoy seamless coverage on their mobile phones. Moreover, Comba’s solution is easily scalable and upgradeable to 3G standards should it be required.
