By CBR Staff Writer

Communications provider Cable&Wireless Worldwide, has signed an £82m five and a half year global telecoms framework contract with the UK Government, consisting of a highly resilient global network and a suite of advanced IP services.

Under the contract, the network and infrastructure from C&W Worldwide will run a global network of over 200 Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates in more than 160 countries and dependencies.

The company said that the contract will save the taxpayer £90m and will help reduce the flight emissions and travel costs to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) through an increased use of reliable video conferencing.

Advanced IP services on offer will enable FCO staff to share information and operate more efficiently, through the re-use of existing C&W Worldwide shared services.

The company has also appointed Brian Woodford as managing director of Public Sector & Partners, to lead the division in partnering the UK government to assist it with its efficiency drives.

Working with a number of government bodies and departments, Brian will be responsible for strengthening the business’ success and growth in the public arena.
