BT clinches Nationwide outsourcing deal

Nationwide Building Society has signed a 160m pound ($318m) seven-year outsourcing deal with BT to manage its voice and data on a converged network.

By Janine Milne

By consolidating Nationwide’s many different data and voice networks onto BT’s 21Century Network, BT’s converged multi-service IP-based network, the motgage lender hopes to be able to deliver enhanced remote access to non-office employees.

The deal marks a shift in strategy for Nationwide, which has traditionally managed its IT in-house and bought point solutions where needed. Switching to an outsouricng model is designed to improve services and flexibility, as well as reduce overall costs and make those costs more predictable.

Nationwide’s growth in recent years has meant that our IT infrastructure has also had to evolve at an exponential rate to keep up with demand and we must now seek the most efficient and scalable infrastructure service possible to support this, said Peter Stafford, head of IT infrastructure at Nationwide.
