BT adds PoP to Icelandic data centre

New PoP extends BT's IP Connect Global and Ethernet Connect Global services.

BT is to place a Point of Presence (PoP) for its global network in Iceland, as part of the telecom firm’s ongoing expansion of BT IP Connect Global and Ethernet Connect Global services.

The PoP, located at Verne Global’s data centre campus in Keflavik, will enable BT’s customers to extend their disaster recovery services, data analytics and other applications to servers based in Verne’s facility.

Keith Langridge, VP of global networking at BT Global Services, said: "The new PoP announced today at Verne Global in Iceland is part of the innovations we keep bringing to the market to help our customers deliver great performance and fully realise the possibilities in the cloud."

"It reinforces our global network at a strategic location in the Northern hemisphere and helps us meet our customers’ expectations in terms of state of the art networked IT capabilities."

Dominic Ward, VP of Verne Global’s corporate development, added: "BT’s decision to expand their network to Verne Global’s campus provides enterprises worldwide with the opportunity to place their data in a location with low-cost, predictably priced power."

"Customers challenged by the increased demands of today’s data-driven economy will find a portfolio of flexible bespoke and colocation options for their business applications."

Last week, Verne Global said it is developing the 44-acre data centre campus after raising $98m in funding.
