Bezeq, Alcatel-Lucent collaborate to roll-out new submarine cable system

Link Tel Aviv, Israel, to Italy and Europe via land route

By CBR Staff Writer

Alcatel-Lucent and Bezeq International, Israel’s Internet and international telecoms provider, have collaborated to roll-out a new high-speed submarine cable system linking Tel Aviv, Israel, to Italy and then to Europe via land route.

The company said that the new system spans 2,297km and is fully-owned by an Israeli operator to land in Israel and will strengthen the hub role of the area.

Bezeq International said the Israeli telecom market is highly dynamic with one of the highest household broadband and mobile penetration rates that are leading to network convergence as more technologically diverse services are becoming available.

Bezeq International CEO Isaac Benbenisti said Alcatel-Lucent’s advanced technology will enable them to offer access to huge bandwidth at more affordable rates, while empowering their ability to deliver new applications for their customer and benefit from growth in wholesale market.

Alcatel-Lucent submarine networks SAS president Philippe Dumont said the availability of more capacity will boost connectivity to support the move to high-speed broadband, while ensuring low-latency and increasing flexibility to serve the diversified requirement of businesses and consumers.
