BAE Systems and Vodafone sign cyber security partnership

Both companies will initially focus on offering security products for smartphones and tablets.

By CBR Staff Writer

UK’s BAE Systems and Vodafone Group have singed a five year partnership under which both the companies will offer communications security products and services to businesses.

Under the deal, both companies will initially focus on supplying security products for smartphones and tablets.

In addition, BAE Systems has selected Vodafone as a preferred supplier of mobile communications worldwide, excluding the US.

Vodafone Group CEO, Vittorio Colao, said as a new generation of mobile-centric security risks are emerging the offerings will protect businesses.

"Our partnership with BAE Systems will strengthen further our commitment to meet our customers’ increasingly complex cyber security needs," Colao said.

The first offering from the partnership will be a new cloud-based mobile security application called Vodafone Mobile Threat Manager, which will be available in Spring 2013.

The new application will be rolled out to Vodafone’s 1,500 global enterprise customers.

BAE Systems said the partnership is part of its plan to boost its cyber and security business, BAE Systems Detica.

"These technologies are subject to the vulnerabilities of cyber space and we can provide the mobile marketplace with protection against today’s threats and the advanced threats of the future,"BAE Systems CEO, Ian King said.

Vodafone will provide services to BAE Systems’ 35,000 UK employees from July 2013, which will later be expanded to its global workforce.
