Online security firm AVG experienced today its US based data center being brought to a standstil after an ‘unplanned’ power failure.

"[The] anti-spam portion of the AVG Business CloudCare service could have been disrupted as a result, possibly affecting email security services customers in all regions," said an AVG spokesman to The Register.

The company has 197 million active users and a remarkable 101 mobile users which have been affected across the globe.

"The exact cause is still being determined but the situation is in the process of being rectified, and normal service is expected to resume within the next 60 minutes.

"We will continue to monitor developments and regret any inconvenience to those customers affected," he said.

AVG’s database disaster recover backup also took longer to solve the issue.

The provider also vowed to begin powering up services once the company regains control of the DB and after applying the latest database backup.

A message on the company’s site says: "The AVG AntiSpam datacenter providers are currently experiencing an issue with their storage array and working to restore a backup."
