Avaya Flare on smartphones, tablets “by the end of the year”

UC platform heading to the iPhone, iPad?

By Steve Evans

UC firm Avaya is looking to add its Flare Experience platform to smartphones and tablets by the end of this year, the company confirmed to CBR.

Avaya Flare Experience

Flare Experience is a collaboration platform that offers desktop video, social media, audio/video/web conferencing, multiple directories, presence and instant messaging. It also provides what Avaya calls contextual history – a log of all calls, emails instant message conversations or any other communication between two contacts.

It is currently only available on the Avaya Desktop Video Device, a HD video and audio tablet. However, speaking to CBR Christopher Barrow, UC product marketing manager for Avaya EMEA said that the firm is working on getting more versions out there.

"It currently runs on Android but we’re looking at adding three or four more by the end of the year," he told CBR, "with the focus on RIM, Apple and Windows."

The company also confirmed it is looking to utilise the Android Market to increase the number and range of apps that are available to users.

Avaya sees its Flare technology eventually replacing the desktop phone/webcam combination. The device comes with a speaker phone installed and the option to connect up a Bluetooth headset for more private calls. Barrow admitted that it is unlikely Flare will replace a user’s desktop computer or laptop, unless the worker is in a primarily consuming role.
