AT&T has revealed that it has taken the steps necessary so that Apple can enable VoIP applications on iPhone to run on AT&T’s wireless network. AT&T has extended VoIP application to 3G network for Apple iPhone.
AT&T said it had informed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Apple about its decision to allow Voice over Internet Protocal (VoIP) calling on its third-generation (3G) wireless network.
The company said it allows customers to download or launch on their wireless devices several compatible applications directly from internet. Additionally, because company uses GSM technology, it support customers using any GSM phone that works on AT&T’s frequencies.
Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T mobility & consumer markets, said: “iPhone is an innovative device that dramatically changed the game in wireless when it was introduced just two years ago. Today’s decision was made after evaluating our customers’ expectations and use of the device compared to dozens of others we offer.”
According to the company, previously VoIP applications on iPhone were enabled for Wi-Fi connectivity. It has also offered a variety of other wireless devices to enable VoIP applications on 3G, 2G and Wi-Fi networks.
