Apriva has received a five-year contract worth $17m from Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to offer its software licenses, network equipment, third-party software, and outsourced network and help desk support for DISA’s secure wireless data and e-mail infrastructure.

Apriva said that the contract includes the implementation and licensing of a second Apriva Gateway to provide geo-diverse failover support, the continuing license for the first Primary Apriva Gateway, wireless network services, data centre services, and outsourced operational management and help desk support for DISA’s entire Apriva Private Gateway infrastructure.

The company said that DISA’s implementation of the Apriva Gateway infrastructure, referred to as the Multi Carrier Entry point (MCEP) by DISA, provides the secure wireless and data centre infrastructure for the Secure Mobile Environment Portable Electronic Device (SME PED).

According to the company, implementation of the second Gateway provides geo-diverse failover support in the event the primary DISA Gateway fails due to natural disaster, error or malicious attack. If this were to occur, the second DISA Gateway will automatically engage and provide Continuity of Operations (COOP), a critical feature not often available with traditional wireless e-mail NOCs.

Jeff Ford, president of ISS division at Apriva, said: “We are very pleased that DISA has again selected Apriva to provide the technology and services to support their mission-critical classified and unclassified wireless messaging and data communications applications and mobile devices.”
