Apple has shut down Topsy, the social search and analytics firm that it acquired in December 2013 for over $200m.

The website for the platform is currently directing users to an Apple support page.

Topsy sent out its last tweet from its ?@Topsy account: "We’ve searched our last tweet."

There is no information on what Apple did with Topsy’s software or staff.

Topsy is a certified Twitter partner and maintains an index of tweets, dating back to the social networking firm’s inception in 2006.

The company makes products to search, analyse and attract insights from conversations and trends on the public social websites such as Twitter and Google+.

Founded in 2007, Topsy employed about 40 people with offices in San Francisco and Washington DC.
