The new release is based on Open API Platform used by communications service providers

By CBR Staff Writer

Paris-based telecommunications firm Alcatel-Lucent has introduced a new open source software engine, apiGrove, which is claimed to make networks more programmable and create new services.

The new open source software engine is designed to enable companies manage the application programming interfaces (APIs) they use to expose the data and functionality of their cloud platforms, telecom networks and enterprises.

Alcatel-Lucent said the new apiGrove software is based on Open API Platform used by communications service providers around the world.

The apiGrove installation package, source code, and documentation are available on the open-source repository and collaboration tool external linkGitHub under Apache 2.0 license.

apiGrove’s open source approach will enable companies to ontribute to the basic apiGrove code, ensuring that their particular requirements are captured.

Alcatel-Lucent Application Enablement senior vice president Laura Merling said the future of the API ecosystem lies in building on an open industry foundation and a holistic approach that spans the network, cloud and enterprise/IT spaces.

"We believe apiGrove gives our customers and the community the foundation they need to make this a reality," Merling said.
