DARPA AND IBM OPEN SOFTWARE LIBRARY

By CBR Staff Writer

The Vienna, Virginia-based Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and IBM Corp have opened a software library in Morgantown, West Virginia: the Asset Source for Software Engineering Technology library is funded under the Agency’s Software Technology for Adaptable Reliable Systems programme; as the library’s prime contractor, IBM will gather, categorise and disseminate defence-related software products, designs and specifications; future plans call for the Asset library to serve as a node of a network of interconnected software libraries, and the $2m project opens with a bank of 10 2400/9600 modems connected to one of IBM’s RS/6000 Unix servers.
