DAMAGES SUIT AGAINST GTE CORP IS GOING GTE’S WAY

By CBR Staff Writer

The $500m damages suit against GTE Corp brought by Home Shopping Network Inc in Tampa, Florida, seems to be going modestly GTE’s way: the judge has granted the company’s motion to deny punitive damages of $1,000m, and its motion to deny Home Shopping its attorney’s fees, and dismissed two counts from the complaint, but let stand the remaining counts in the suit, in which Home Shopping alleged that GTE failed to deliver phone calls from shoppers-by-television to its operators, and GTE alleges that Home didn’t have enough operators.
