DAEWOO PINS HIGH-END FUTURE ON MIPS R-SERIES…

By CBR Staff Writer

Daewoo Telecom Co Ltd has followed its South Korean siblings in seeing the need for a RISC in its future, and has opted for the R-series from MIPS Computer Systems Inc. Daewoo has signed an OEM, assembly licence and technology transfer agreement under which it will initially resell MIPS’ entire product line in Korea under its own name and will move on to assembling some servers and stations for the local market. Daewoo will convert its existing automotive, industrial, military and telecommunications applications to the MIPS kit and has licensed the source code for RISC/os, MIPS’ implementation of Unix, and MIPS’ compilers.
