D-Link has introduced a new series of DES-1100 EasySmart switches designed to provide small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with a way to manage the rising data volumes passing through their networks.
The new smart switches fall between the company’s unmanaged and fully-managed switches, to provide businesses with the benefits of a managed device cost effectively.
The EasySmart series include SmartConsole and Web-based management for providing users with a Web-based graphical user interface (GUI), and traffic segregation management for enabling network administrators to easily segment traffic on a per port basis.
The new series also feature per-port bandwidth control for enabling network administrators to define throughput levels according to individual ports, storm control for preventing network traffic being disrupted by a broadcast, multicast or unicast storm.
The smart switches offer cable diagnostics, enabling network administrators to determine cable status for troubleshooting any wiring problems; and loopback detection to automatically disable ports that have been cabled incorrectly.
D-Link UK & Ireland general manager Chris Davies said many SMEs are finding that as their network traffic grows, the simple connectivity of an unmanaged switch is insufficient, but at the same time they don’t have the expertise, budget or resources for a managed solution.
"Our EasySmart switches aim to address this by providing SMEs with a solution that can be plugged straight into their network and automatically provides them with easy-to-use network management functionality," Davies said.
"We see our EasySmart series as a great opportunity for our channel partners to offer SMEs more reliable networks without the need for their customers to invest in management skills."
