CYRIX OBTAINS FUNDING FROM ONE BRANCH OF IBM TO PAY ANOTHER

By CBR Staff Writer

Cyrix Corp says that demand for its Cx486DX and DX2 microprocessors was strong in the second quarter and its relationship with IBM Microelectronics gave it capacity to ship about twice as many of the chips as it did in the first quarter; it has also obtained funding for its financial obligations under its agreement with IBM Microelectronics by the simple expedient of borrowing it from another IBM Corp unit, IBM Credit Corp, which will put up the $80m Cyrix has committed for capital investment, allowing the money to be repaid over five years.
