CyberTrust, the public key infrastructure (PKI) division of GTE Corp, is looking to form partnerships with application service providers that will enable ASPs to offer extranets to their customers. The company is in talks with ASPs and several of the Big Six accountancy companies to provide systems integration. Having recently launched in Western Europe, CyberTrust intends to expand its operations rapidly across the continent, initially into Portugal next month but later into Poland, the Czech Republic and Romania. Needham Heights, Massachusetts-based CyberTrust’s strategy is to try to win mindshare by signing high-profile contracts, such as those with Italian banking alliance SSB or Telecom Italia. Trevor Thomas, managing director of CyberTrust’s UK operations, says that internet service providers hoping to jump on the ASP bandwagon, are prime potential customers.
