A mere 4% of companies are implementing full bring your own device policies in the UK, according to a survey by trade group CompTIA.
Half of British companies still fully control the use of mobile devices, not allowing employees to bring their own despite a quarter reportedly working between home and the office.
Seth Robinson, director of technology analysis at CompTIA, said: "The new norm is quickly becoming one employee, three devices. PCs, smartphones and tablets will all remain major components in the workplace for some time."
An overwhelming number of firms were supplying their employees with devices, 85% giving out smartphones and 87% giving out laptops, while two-thirds supplied tablets.
Only a quarter of those surveyed had a mobility policy, with a third in the process of building one, despite the fact that more than half of firms polled required their employees to travel for business.
Different sized companies tended to face different problems, with small companies suffering from lack of resources, medium’s struggling to reconcile IT department’s needs with those of the users, and large firms having to cope with a plethora of devices and employees.
"By drawing various lines of business together and discussing the business requirements along with any IT concerns, companies can set priorities and establish procedures for addressing issues as changes are needed," Robinson added.
