Trend Micro has acquired HP Tipping Point, in a deal reportedly worth around $300m.

The buyout will encompass security technology, intellectual property, industry expertise, and an enterprise customer base.

The acquisition means that Trend Micro will now offer both breach detection and intrusion prevention services. The company also has plans to build a Network Defense business unit, providing services for over 3,500 enterprise customers.

The acquisition is set to be finalised at the end of the fourth quarter following regulatory approval.

Eva Chen, CEO, Trend Micro said: "As an ideal complement to our market-leading protection for data centres and endpoints, this new next-generation network defense solution combines our best-in-class network breach detection system2, with proven intrusion prevention and response capabilities from TippingPoint."

Trend Micro and Tipping point have already been working together in a strategic partnership since November 2014.

HP and Trend Micro say they will still work together after this transaction, forming a strategic partnership with TippingPoint around re-sale, managed services and OEM activities, as well as security intelligence, app security and data security.
