Top 10 security apps for Samsung Galaxy S5

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is imminent. Will you be ready to keep yours protected?

On April 11, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will go on sale in more than 150 countries. While Samsung have hardly reinvented the smartphone with this latest device, it offers subtle improvements on the Galaxy S4, such as a faster processor, better camera, brighter screen and a more solid design. Like its predecessor and all other Android device, however, it could always do with a little security boost. Here are some of the best security apps to download on your Samsung Galaxy S5.

1. McAfee WaveSecure

Although this app does not boast the same firewall protection or virus scan functions that McAfee’s PC solutions are renowned for, it does have some very useful security features.

These include the ability to track and map your device using GPS, the ability to lock your phone and to wipe key data from it remotely, and the ability to back up and restore wiped data after a device has been secured.

2. Keeper password & data vault

This app allows users to keep their user names, passwords and credit card details secure. Keeper lets you log in to websites with one touch, create custom folders, search passwords dynamically and self-destruct your handset should it be stolen or lost.

3. Norton Mobile Security

The new Norton Mobile Security with antivirus protects your Android phones and tablets from theft, loss, malware and viruses. It can also screen calls/texts, remotely locate your lost or stolen device, and scan your new apps, app updates and SD cards for privacy risks, malware and greyware. It is also designed to allow users to control the protection for all of their devices through one website.

4. Lookout Mobile Security

This app helps you protect your phone with AntiVirus, Backup and a Find My Phone feature.
It allows you to block viruses, spyware and malware by scanning every app you download. Backup allows you to back up your contacts and photos, as well as restore data to a new or existing phone. Find My Phone can help you pinpoint your phone on a map, activate a loud alarm to find your phone, and if necessary remotely wipe your data if your phone is lost or stolen.

 

5. Anti-virus Pro

This app protects Android devices from viruses, malware and spam SMS, and can scan apps, settings, files and media in real time. It can also be used to find the phone via Google Maps if it is lost or stolen. Weekly or on demand scans can be run, the phone can be locked remotely and a lock screen message can be set to help the locator find you. Ant-virus Pro can be used to eliminate tasks that slow down the phone too.

6. Kaspersky Intenet Security for Android

This app delivers Kaspersky Lab’s latest mobile security technologies – including anti-theft protection and Android antivirus. It has been optimised to protect both Android smartphones and Android tablets from Internet security threats with minimal impact on the performance of your devices.

It includes anti-malware protection, website Protection against Internet-based attacks and phishing websites and privacy Protection to control what others can see or access when they pick up your smartphone. A call and text filter also ensures your smartphone only receives the calls and texts you want to receive.

 

7. Bitdefender Mobile Security

This app offers on-demand and on-install scanning to help keep your phone clean.
Bitdefender Mobile Security uses the Bitdefender Cloud services to alert users when browsing webpages that contain malware, phishing or fraudulent content.

The Privacy Advisor function is capable of giving you detailed information about what your installed apps are doing in the background without your knowledge.

The app also has a new Anti-theft feature, with web dashboard and SMS commands. The Anti-Theft module provides options to remotely locate, lock, wipe or send a message to the Android device.

8. Avast! Mobile Security

Avast! Mobile Security aims to keep your device safe from viruses, malware, adware and spyware. It helps you locate your lost phone through a web-based phone locate feature and has a remote device lock and/or memory wipe in its advanced Anti-Theft component keep your data safe.

It also comes with handy tools like call filter, network meter, app manager, and even firewall (on rooted phones) give you complete control of your mobile phone.

 

9. TrustGo Antivirus & Mobile Security

TrustGo features a powerful engine, low power consumption and functions for locating a lost or stolen device.

As well as the classic features of antivirus software, it includes a multitude of features that make it a complete suite. This includes System Manager, which offers functions for monitoring data traffic, battery life and memory. A Privacy Guard function analyses and displays, (broken down by type) all permissions required by each app installed on your device. The report highlights applications that require additional permits, identifies the level of risk, and suggests possible actions.
