Privately owned British security vendor Sophos has bought the mobile security firm Mojave Networks in the US for an undisclosed fee, in a move towards the cloud-managed market.

Mojave’s technology will be integrated into Sophos Cloud early next year, and later added to the parent firm’s network security applications.

Kris Hagerman, chief executive of Sophos, said: "Mojave Networks is a young innovative company that has built a leading platform right at the intersection of three cutting-edge areas of security: cloud, web security, and mobile.

"By integrating Mojave Networks’ technology into Sophos Cloud, we’re extending our leadership position and enhancing an offering that is already one of the fastest growing products in Sophos’ history."

Mojave chief executive Garrett Larsson said his company was excited to join Sophos, which is based in Abingdon in Oxfordshire, some distance from Mojave’s headquarters in Silicon Valley.

Earlier this year Sophos acquired the network security firm Cyberoam Technologies, which specialises in network firewalls and is also headquartered in the US.
