British police have arrested a 22-year-old man thought to be linked to the hacking group Lizard Squad, in a case involving the theft of money from PayPal accounts.
A statement from Thames Valley Police, which did not name the man, said the arrest on December 30 was "in connection with an ongoing investigation into cyber fraud offences which took place between 2013 and August 2014", adding that the suspect was released on bail until March 10.
Tech website the Daily Dot claimed to have seen the search warrant from the raid after being sent it by Vinnie Omari, who claims to have been the arrestee.
Omari has previously claimed to a be a spokesman for Lizard Squad but has denied being involved in attacks on PlayStation and Xbox over the Christmas period.
He said the police had taken computer equipment during the raid in which he was arrested, including an Xbox One console, phones, laptops, and USB sticks.
In a related incident, a 17-year-old Finn known only as Ryan was questioned by police in his own country in connection with computer crimes, but has not been arrested.
Lizard Squad attracted notoriety over the last year for various distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against video game networks, and appear to have been acting for their own amusement rather than with financial motive.
However the group has apparently launched a DDoS-for-hire service called Lizard Stressor, with subscriptions beginning at $5.99 (£3.90). At the time of writing that service seems to be offline.
