IBM has received patents for its new cloud computing security technology which will enable app developers secure personal data shared with third-party mobile networks.
The new technology is said to allow app developers to transfer the data notifications securely and confidentially across mobile devices.
According to IBM, mobile applications without sufficient security protocols can exposing details of data notifications transferred across mobile networks and can also expose personal or sensitive information to service providers.
IBM inventor and software engineering researcher Benjamin Fletcher said the patented invention will enable developers and service providers to design and build applications that ensure sensitive or personal information is not inadvertently exposed across mobile networks.
"Regardless of the nature of data being pushed to or from a mobile device, it should never be exposed to third-parties since they cannot always guarantee the security and confidentiality to customers," Fletcher added.
The patented technology is a cloud-based service, which helps developers to develop applications that could encrypt data notifications and send it to cloud through an unique message identifier (ID).
The message ID in the cloud will then securely transmit the data to a mobile device using a third-party service provider.
