Google announced its workplace demographics data, which showed that 21% of its tech hires last year were female.
The overall number of women in technical roles is now 1%, with the number of female staff remaining at 2013 levels of 30%.
Google acknowledged the fact that there is a gap in its workforce demographics and still has a long way to go to address it.
Black Googlers made up to 3% of the workforce, followed by Latino Googlers with 2%.
The Black and Hispanic communities hiring grew 39% in the US, compared to 28% overall technical hire.
The company said that it has prepared the groundwork to accelerate representation of Black and Hispanic communities by doubling the number of universities where from the company recruits.
It has also expanded its partnership with historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The company’s racial demographics is still ruled by white employees who account for 60% of the workforce followed by Asian Googlers who account for 31%.
Google said: "Though we still have a long way to go, we’re seeing some early progress."
