Google has fixed 42 bugs in the web browser Chrome, as it approved the 39th version for stable release.
The update features a number of high risk flaws, including an address bar spoofing bug, and a number of buffer and integer overflow vulnerabilities which can lead to memory being overwritten and erratic program behaviour.
Google thanked those who submitted bugs to its bounty programme "for working with us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from ever reaching the stable channel", and issued $41,500 in rewards.
Internal security work from the company also led to a number of fixes, some of which involved auditing and "fuzzing", in which random data is put into a program to see how it responds.
Several new apps and extension application programming interfaces were included with the release, as well as support for the 64-bit Mac. Overall performance was also improved.
