Darktrace has expanded its security intelligence platform to take in data from industrial control systems (ICS), amid a heightening of cybersecurity fears relating to the Internet of Things (IoT).
Testing of the technology has begun at the European power company Drax, with a focus on monitoring the behaviour of machines using supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Dave Palmer, director of technology at Darktrace, said: "Darktrace studies the behaviour of the control system itself, not the industrial process that it manages, providing increased confidence that the control system is functioning as intended."
"Its fundamental capability to detect unknown cyber-threats within network traffic, using machine learning, really matters in the industrial world."
After an initial focus on the energy sector the company hopes to roll out the ICS technology to the water, oil, gas, chemical, manufacturing and transport sectors.
Recently Darktrace has pioneered cybersecurity based on machine learning, with systems building up a picture of normal operational behaviour over weeks and months in order to better detect security breaches.
