Dangerous spam targets Brits with fake Easter offers

People are being conned out of money and their personal data with the temptation of God and Viagra.

By Duncan Macrae

A new wave of dangerous spam has hit the UK offering fake Easter treats, vouchers and personal loans packed with fraudulent links.

Antivirus solutions provider Bitdefender has warned the public to be extra wary of these email offers in order to prevent their computers, tablets and smartphones from becoming infected.

Bitdefender has also discovered a large amount of religious scams targeting Brits, with many being invited to discover God’s plan for their life in one moment and tempted with Viagra offers the next.

Participating in dubious surveys for Easter goodies or rewards may also result in victims having their personal data or money stolen this Easter.

Catalin Cosoi, chief security strategist at Bitdefender, said: "Be careful when shopping online this Easter.

"Check your secured ‘https’ connection and make sure the online shop doesn’t redirect you to a dubious payment gateway. We would also recommend that shopping using unsecured Wi-Fi connections is avoided, as hackers may access your credentials and banking information."
