Romanian authorities have detained an individual, suspected to be the hacker ‘Guccifer,’ who allegedly hacked the email accounts of ex-US President George Bush’s family and other well-known political and entertainment entities.

However, an undisclosed Romanian prosecutor told Reuters that the suspect is considered to be the hacker called Guccifer and The Small Fume.

Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism revealed that the suspect with the initials LML had been arrested in the county of Arad, close to the border with Hungary.

The agency also reported of reasonable suspicion over LML’s repeated and illegal access, as well as violating security rules, email accounts of Romanian individuals in a bid to capture electronic mail confidential information.

Guccifer has claimed his victims including Romanian officials; ex- New Yorker magazine editor Tina Brown; Downton Abbey developer Julian Fellowes; journalist Carl Bernstein; venture capitalist John Doerr, and MetLife CEO Steven Kandarian.

In addition, Guccifer has also allegedly compromised several former US military officials, including former Secretary of the Air Force George Roche.
