Blackphone creator SGP Technologies has chosen Safe Host as its Swiss data centre provider, continuing a partnership that goes back to the mobile’s launch in June.
The decision takes account of stringent Swiss data protection laws, which demand that firms provide good reasons for data collection and that foreign bodies meet a certain level of data protection before data can be transferred abroad.

Blackphone touts itself as a highly secure phone for communications, having been developed and released in the wake of the Edward Snowden leaks, and is said to have seen heavy uptake among government workers and bring your own device (BYOD) enthusiasts.
The mobile was launched as a joint project by Spanish smartphone company GeeksPhone and encrypted communications firm Silent Circle, with its parent SGP also quartered in Switzerland.
