BlackBerry buys German voice encryption company Secusmart

Secusmart previously partnered with Blackberry to bring the SecuSUITE for BlackBerry10.

By CBR Staff Writer

Smartphone maker Blackberry has acquired its long time partner Secusmart, a German voice encryption provider, in order to make its devices more secure.

Secusmart provides data and voice encryption service along with anti-eavesdropping solutions for telecommunications service providers, enterprises as well as government organisations.

Previously the company collaborated with Blackberry to bring the SecuSUITE for BlackBerry10 that protects the phone from third party attack by providing anti-eavesdropping security.

The acquisition is BlackBerry’s attempt to get an edge over its competitors such as Samsung and Apple to develop smartphones that offer an additional layer of security.

John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO, BlackBerry, said: "The acquisition of Secusmart underscores our focus on addressing growing security costs and threats ranging from individual privacy to national security."

"This acquisition bolsters our security solutions with leading voice and data encryption and anti-eavesdropping technologies, and furthers BlackBerry’s security leadership in end-to-end mobile solutions."

Both the companies have not disclosed the financial details of the deal.
