A Black Friday voucher scam is targeting Amazon through spam email, according to the security firm Websense.
More than 20,000 emails purporting to offer a gift-card for the post-Thanksgiving sales were found by the company, which contained malicious links to a survey website that encouraged victims to enter their personal details.
Carl Leonard, principal security analyst at Websense, said: "High volume attacks targeting user credentials are not new, yet spammers are still clearly seeing value as users are still falling for the voucher trick.
"Whilst these campaigns are usually not malicious by nature they pose a significant risk to users who may give out personal information, making them a more viable target for future attacks."
The hackers enact the scam in order to generate advertising revenue for a website, in turn earning them money, and have created versions of the campaign in English and Chinese, with some variants even featuring Amazon branding.
"When the phrase ‘too good to be true’ springs to mind, my advice to users would be, do not click," Leonard added.
