Airbus Defence and Space and Atos have signed a strategic partnership to work together on research and development, to bolster their cyber security offering.

The deal includes a worldwide distribution channel partner agreement, and will cover a variety of industries such as banking and insurance, the public sector, and the defence market.

Evert Dudok, executive vice president communications, intelligence and security at Airbus Defence and Space, said: Putting together our expertise will enhance our cyber security offer for governments, critical infrastructure and strategic industries and will also ensure a strong growth potential thanks to the international presence of Atos."

The Airbus Group has been making increasing efforts in cyber security, and in March it won a £1.4m contract with the Ministry of Defence to analyse cyber attacks and develop a Virtual Cyber Centre of Operations,

The firms cite a Gartner report from May 2014 that by 2016 the cyber security industry will be worth $84bn, and say they believe their new partnership will help them make progress in this space.
