About 90% companies underestimate malicious attacks

Only 6% have provided the exact evaluation of threat

About 90% of the global companies underestimate the volume of malicious software unleashed to attack their firms, according to the 2013 Global Corporate IT Security Risks survey conducted by B2B International and Kaspersky Lab.

According to the survey, 4% of believed that the threat level is too high, while only 6% have provided the exact assessment of threat.

The report revealed that about 200,000 new malware samples appear across the globe every day.

Middle East respondents found to have the highest levels of malware awareness with 24% of companies providing accurate estimates, whereas malware awareness was lowest in Russia with 4% offering accurate estimate.

In regions, including North and South America, Western Europe and Asia-Pacific, the companies evaluated the threat accurately ranged between 5% and 7%.

The survey also revealed that an average 66% of companies have been attacked at least once with malware in the past one year.

Regions with companies experiencing most frequent attacks were located in South America with 72% companies, Russia with 71%, North America with 70%, Asia-Pacific with 68% and Western Europe with 63%.

The number of the regions that are having low levels of education regarding the number of new malicious programmes being used is growing daily, the survey claimed.
