After building up services offering bulk emails for advertisers as part of its drive to become one of the internet’s biggest players, C&W is ditching the business and is shrinking its US operation to concentrate solely on major corporate customers.
The deal makes sense because Xpedite boasts that it is the biggest outsourced messaging company, distributing more electronic documents than AT&T Corp. London, UK-based C&W is in the middle of an operation to ditch thousands of unprofitable customers in cut-backs that will cost 3,500 of its 12,500-strong global workforce their jobs after its strategy of selling off traditional carrier businesses and attempting to become a big force in web hosting operations left it with huge losses.
