The Flag Fibre-optic Link Around the Globe cable system dreamed up by Nynex Corp has awarded the Worldwide Ocean Surveying Ltd subsidiary of Cable & Wireless Plc a $10m contract to conduct the world’s longest marine route survey for the $1,000m undersea cable, which will extend from the UK to Japan; the system will link business centres and high-growth regions in Europe, the Middle East and the Far East through landing points in 13 countries, and it is scheduled to be down and running in 1996.
