Daily newspaper Juventud Rebelde cited an announcement from Roberto del Puerto, director of the state of office for information technology that the country has designed a strategy, roadmap and legal framework for moving its state computers from Windows to Linux.

The report added that Cuba already has about 1,500 computers running Linux and a community of Linux developers across the country, while the University of Computer Sciences, which will be involved in the migration project, has already planning Linux development projects.

Along with the University of Computer Sciences, the migration project will also involve the state of office for information technology, the ministries of Justice, the Interior, and Computer Science and Communications, and other state institutions.
