CSK Corp, the major system house, has introduced an electronic notebook terminal that transmits and receives data by radio: it is seen as an advance on the notebook personal computers with radio transmission features, being much easier to use and weighing just 1 lb 12 oz: the electronic notebook is Sharp Corp’s DB-Z, with an IC card for communications which permits connection as a teleterminal to a service provided by Japan City Media Ltd and the unit is aimed at salesmen always out of the office, enabling them to receive and send data back to base; the rental charge has been set lower than the charge for Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp’s portable phones; CSK first developed the idea using a Casio Computer Co electronic notebook, which weighed 4 lbs 8 oz; this is being used in-house; NEC Corp recently introduced a version of its PC-98 Note with a radio modem attached, for connection to the same City Media service.
