CSC Secures Lead in South African Services Market

By CBR Staff Writer

Computer Sciences Corporation today announced a $300m seven-year IT managed infrastructure deal with Cape Town, South Africa based Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (South Africa) Ltd. CSC will take over the running of mainframe and midrange computers, servers, desktops, help-desk and system software support. 430 staff will now join CSC bringing its South African headcount to around 500. The deal lifts CSC into the South African IT services market’s number one spot and illustrates the extent to which former leaders Comparex Holdings (formerly PQ Holdings), Datatec and Dimension Data Holdings have relinquished their grip on the South African scene in search of greater profit and stability. Each of these has embarked upon aggressive acquisition programs in Europe and the Far East.
