CSC bags $95m contract from US Department of Defense

Operate, maintain and enhance the Department's pharmacy data transaction service

By CBR Staff Writer

CSC has received a new contract from the US Department of Defense (DoD) to support DoD’s Pharmacy Data Transaction Service (PDTS), which is part of the US military health system TRICARE.

CSC said that the new contract has a six month base and four option periods, for a total of 51 months, bringing the estimated total value to $95m.

Under the terms of contract, CSC will continue to operate, maintain and enhance the DoD’s pharmacy data transaction service.

CSC said that it is teaming with Emdeon Pharmacy Services, a division of Emdeon, which provides and enhances pharmacy transaction adjudication system that is the cornerstone of PDTS service.

The PDTS allows the DoD to reduce fraud and abuse, create better management reporting, save money through the avoidance of adverse drug interactions, duplicate therapy, and increase patient safety.

CSC North American Public Sector president James Sheaffer said, by providing an accurate medication history, the company will help the Department keep patients safe, whether they choose to receive their medications from a military facility, mail-order or civilian retail pharmacy.
