Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has acquired Australian health care information technology company iSOFT Group for $189m.

The acquisition will strengthen CSC’s global healthcare integration and services portfolio, and enhances its healthcare research and development capabilities.

The deal adds 3000 iSOFT’s global employees, including those from major research and development centres in India, Spain, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Central Europe.

CSC said the acquisition will also accelerate the company’s strategic growth plan and enhance position in global healthcare IT market.

More than 13,000 healthcare providers and governments in 40 countries use iSOFT’s e-health software products to manage patient information and improve their core processes.

iSOFT notes its systems are installed in over 8,000 hospitals and clinics, and support free exchange of critical information across diverse care settings and participating organisations.

Viginia-based CSC has about 91,000 employees and reported revenue of $16bn for the 12 months ended 1 April 2011.
